  • Gut flora support : The omega-3 fatty acids found in camelina can help maintain a healthy balance of intestinal flora, reducing the risk of digestive imbalances and colic.
  • Anti-inflammatory Properties : Omega-3s have anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe the digestive tract, which is beneficial for horses with chronic digestive issues.
  • Improved Nutrient Absorption : By optimizing intestinal health, camelina can help improve the absorption of essential nutrients, contributing to the overall health and well-being of the horse.

Yes, camelina supplements, whether oil or meal, can help improve the quality of horses' coats and hooves.

  • Coat Quality : The omega-3 fatty acids in camelina oil help to moisturize the skin and strengthen hair follicles, promoting a shinier, healthier coat. By reducing skin inflammation, they also help maintain a healthy coat and aid shedding, which is especially beneficial during seasonal changes.
  • Hoof Health : Essential nutrients, such as omega-3s and protein, promote strong, flexible hooves. A diet rich in these nutrients can also help prevent common problems such as brittle hooves or laminitis.

Yes, camelina supplementation is generally appropriate for a horse with Cushing's disease.

However, if the horse is also insulin resistant , it is recommended to favour camelina oil , as oilseed cake contains carbohydrates that may not be suitable in this case.

It's always best to discuss any new supplement with your veterinarian, as every horse is different. Your veterinarian will be able to advise you on what's most appropriate for your horse.
